A lot of things have changed since Wayne Self decided to open a small, family-owned business in Cartersville, Georgia in 1987. In the beginning, we were a one-man shop in a small building off of the beaten path. Cell phones did not exist, our equipment did not have computers, and all business deals were sealed with a handshake - all signs of a simpler time.

Over the years, technology has allowed us to expand and become more efficient. Our building is 4x the size, and our team is comprised of 25 incredibly talented individuals. We have been blessed enough to be able to serve our community while growing our business. We attribute this to our core beliefs – customer service and satisfaction. Our goal is to ensure doing business with Steel Materials is a pleasure, not added stress to your project. And though the industry sometimes requires a contract, we still like to finish a deal with a handshake.
